Westport

We pulled the pins at 08:00, dull and cold conditions kept hats, coats and gloves on all morning, no rain so that was a blessing. The first mile to Trentham locks is rural apart from the Wedgewood factory to starboard, becoming rural again after Trentham until Stoke City FC's Britannia stadium is seen, then the urban landscape comes thickly laced with some untidy heavy industry and decaying factories.

I have never found much to be impressed about on this stretch of canal apart from the bottle kilns standing like sentinels guarding Stoke's pottery heritage.

Bottle kilns.

Five Stoke locks help us through the city, we had help at each lock from other crews going south. FL is  now moored at Westport lake, the sun is out so a walk around the lake before tea is on the cards.
