Alvechurch

Canal & River Trusts yard at Tardebigge is where nb Cressy a converted Shropshire fly boat (express delivery boat) was moored in 1946. It is said that aboard this boat Tom Rolt and Robert Aickman met and formed the Inland Waterway Association which was instrumental in saving the canals from dereliction. A big thank you to them from me.

Getting ready to leave Tardebigge

Alvechurch was where we would end todays cruise, some washing and polishing of the starboard cabin side before I was persuaded to walk into the village for supplies which turned into a mini pub crawl with the shopping. There are four good taverns here, my favourite is the cosy canalside Weighbridge a converted weighbridge office that once weighed the coal from barges to horse and cart for local distribution.
